Poker is a card game that involves betting. There are a number of different poker games, and each one has its own rules and strategies. During a hand, the players will place chips in the middle of the table, called the “pot.” Each player has two cards that they can use with the five community cards to form a “hand.” When betting comes around to you, say “I open” if you want to add more money to the pot. Otherwise, simply say “call” if you want to match the previous player’s bet, or “fold” if you don’t have a good hand.
The highest-ranking poker hand is a royal flush, which is four matching cards of the same rank in a single suit. The next best hand is a straight, which is five consecutive cards of the same rank. The lowest hand is a pair, which is two distinct cards of the same rank. High card is used to break ties. A high card is any card that is higher than any other card in a hand.
