A standard 52-card deck is used for poker, and the cards are usually shuffled after each deal. Occasionally, two packs of cards of contrasting colors are used to speed up the shuffling and betting process. The dealer passes the re-shuffled pack to the next player to his left after each deal.
When it is a player’s turn to bet, he may raise or lower his bet depending on the rules of the specific poker variant being played. A player who raises his bet will usually only get one chance to call or fold. Players can also choose to pass on their turn by checking, which means that they don’t bet but simply pass the opportunity onto the other players. The best hands in poker are the straight, flush, and three of a kind. The high card breaks ties.
